National Sports Governance Act Compliance India

The National Sports Governance Act 2025 was notified in the Gazette on 18 August 2025, and select provisions were brought into force with effect from 1 January 2026. Recognition, constitutional compliance, elections and dispute resolution now sit on a statutory footing. Federations that treated the 2011 Sports Code as advisory no longer have that option.

• Election governance, including engagement with the National Sports Election Panel
• Athletes’ commission constitution and athlete representation requirements
• Ethics and safe sport frameworks, codes of conduct and conflict of interest policies
• Internal grievance redressal and dispute mechanisms
• Representation before the National Sports Tribunal, and appeals to the Supreme Court
• Disclosure, transparency and financial reporting obligations
